Sometimes I am not as smart as I used to claim to be.

As, f'rexample, when I realised a couple of weeks back that the version of the SF novella I was working on was not the most recent draft. By then I was, oh, twenty pages in with my revisions.

Did I stop, did I fetch up the later draft and incorporate my latest revisions into that and carry on from there?

No. I carried on. Until I was sixty-some pages in, and hit a point where I knew the later draft departed radically from the version I was working on. At that point I imported the second half of the later draft wholesale, and worked on from there. Knowing all the time that I would have to go back and rework those first sixty-odd pages.

Which I am now doing. Slowly, agonisingly, with two printed drafts and the computer.

Aaaargh.

Also I missed a bargain in the shops today, by virtue of my patent dither. L years old and still hasn't learned: it's quite sad, really.
