Those of you who've been playing along will know that my novel Dead of Light has been going up chapter by chapter at the Book View Cafe every Thursday. (If you've missed this and want to go back to the beginning, all the early chapters are still there - or, to be more specific, here.)

From tomorrow, the e-book edition will be available to buy from the BVC site, for a mere $4.99. I will give you a link tomorrow (and very possibly every day thereafter, until we break the internets); in the meantime, just to keep you going, here is the cover image, based on an utterly gorgeous photograph by C E Murphy, aka our very own [livejournal.com profile] mizkit, with lettering by [livejournal.com profile] shewhomust...

Dead of Light

Right, then

The sun has been shining all day, in a warming kind of way - and I've only been out of the house to trudge up to the dentist, so that he could spend an hour in further exploration of the hardest root canal he's had to tackle in years (his words). Sigh.

Otherwise I've been waiting in, in hopes of the plumber having a window.

No window has emerged. I gave up lunch-with-friends for this; now I give up plumbs. I am going to feed the boys and put my boots on and go out, out, out. Buy tonic, collect vegetables, walk among cattle and dogs. Possibly in the reverse order, tonic and vegetables being weighty. Me being weak.

I shall wear shades, and leave my jacket behind. It's June, damn it. June!

Okay. I have shopped - for many things, as it turned out, not excluding tonic. I have brought home vegetables, and also eggs.

In nineteen pages' time, I will be halfway through these revisions. I have the time, I have the craft. Dinner can wait. I have wine, and gin if I need it; I have fresh sourdough and olive oil. Annacat. A hot cat. I can't work out if he thinks my lap is cooler than the window, or pleasantly warm now that the sun's moved on. Whichever, it is hotter with a Barry in it. No doubt that will inspire me. Engines run, I believe, hot.
