A number of things make a post
Aug. 28th, 2010 06:15 pmI do love modern communications. I can be asked for a piece of writing on Wednesday, put it together Thursday/Friday, send it off on Saturday morning and have a happy acceptance by the same afternoon. And kids today would have no idea why that's so cool...
I do also love modern versions of old-fashioned ways of cooking. People used to keep a stockpot on the back of the stove; these days, we have slow cookers. I put a piece of pork shoulder in mine last night, with onion and celery and carrots and fennel. I've just shredded the meat and put it back in the stock with fresh veggies and a whole load of chillies and garlic, and in an hour I'll have soup without actually feeling like I've cooked it. Undeserved fudz...
Meanwhile, given that I'm writing a novel set among the pilots of the second world war, I could quite legitimately quit doing that right now and go downstairs to watch The Battle of Britain again. It's research! It's Christopher Plummer! It's research!
Or I could exhibit virtue and keep working another hour, then watch the cricket highlights instead.
