Brrr

There is a whole lot of snow out there. Inches of the stuff. Inches'n'inches.

I wonder if I shall go to the Lit & Phil today? Something in me urges the rediscovery of How To Work At Home. It'd be dead useful, suggests that something: a knack worth holding on to.

Oh, and I could do the dishes and put the house in order, that too. That would be a goodness. And turn pumpkin residue and beef stock into soup for the ages. So much virtue to be achieved, by dint of not going to work...

On the other hand, I could take sossidge sammiches with me and be warm all day. Once I got there. And I'd far rather walk through today's soft fresh snow than on tomorrow's ice.

Dunno. I don't have to decide yet. I can have coffee yet, and decide later.

In other news, beef-stewed-in-a-pumpkin looks fabulous, but next time I shall use the stew to cook the pumpkin rather than the pumpkin to cook the stew. I [disapprove of] chewy meat. (There's actually a stronger word that I want to use there, also begins with "dis", but I can't think of it. Damn. I hate when words go slithery, and they do it more and more.)

Ahem

That 'dis' word I was looking for, for dissing chewy meat?

Deprecate.

I am truly sorry for having misdirected you all. And thank you for all your suggestions.

Obscurely prompted, I just went to my website and checked the archive of my original blog: which apparently I started eight years ago. Gosh. And here I still am: different premises but still the same sordid business, gossip and misinformation. Lies, damned lies and statistics.

Still the same reckless pursuit of displacement, that too. I've been in all day, and hardly written a bloody thing. Grr.

I just fucked up the installation(s) on this computer so badly I lost the boot loader.

For those of you who are non-geeks, like me: this meant I switched the machine on and got nothing. At all. No access to any of the operating systems, which means by definition no access to anything on the machine.

Blessedly (demonstrably!) I managed to salvage the situation, by crossing my fingers and depending on other people to have been smarter than I am.

It worked, I think; I am visibly back in Linux. I should probably go and check Windows too, but it seems likely to have been salvaged.

Maybe I'll just go and drink more.
