Oh, whoops. Remember I was grumbling about hurty hands, a couple of days back? Today I have numbness. In my thumbs. A little in the left, lots in the right. Which is sort of the opposite ends of the opposite hands to the hurty, which is mostly the littler fingers and mostly to the left.

Don't like this much. I've had pain for decades, I've had catastrophic pins and needles that took two years of serious & expensive physio to fix; I've never had numbness before.

Am currently hoping it'll Just Go Away. 'Cos that's what happens, y'know...?

(Oh - and, yup. Still typing.)

I do love how we've gone so quickly from "there should be other planets out there but we just can't tell for sure, they're way too small and far away to see" to "this planet 750 light years away is reflecting back incredibly low levels of light and we don't know why, but we're trying to figure it out."

Elizabeth Bear reviewed Desdaemona in "Realms of Fantasy", which I can't link to as the contents are not online; I've only just seen it, because ditto ditto. And I can't cite the whole thing, because, y'know. Ditto ditto.

But I can quote, for purposes of fair use; and she says:

This is true modern urban fantasy, complete with beautiful dangerous women, lords of Hell and Earth, chase scenes, fight scenes, unrelenting action, and the mystery of a disappearing girl.

... The prose is impeccable, his protagonist a perfectly believable almost-immortal seventeen-year-old, and the book's theme of avoidance of the inevitable nicely developed.

So yay. Impeccable, she said. I could live on that for a week.

Yuck, spit - totally the wrong sort of pirates. I have just pointed my publisher at a slew of illegal downloads, that they may be stomped with sea-boots. V depressing, it was.

In other news, I may have numb thumb and be just a tad tense, but I have written 2068 words today, which is kinda back on track if not the great leap forward I had hoped for.

43646 / 80000 words. 54.6% done!
