This afternoon, while m'wife has been at her writers' group, I have: vacuum'd the living-room, diagnosed the problem with the vacuum, figured out how to open it and extract its bag, emptied its bag, ordered new bags from t'internet, dug out less than half the fava/broad bean jungle, and harvested and fetched in four kilos of residual beans. Now I'm going back out to apply water hither and yon. After that, I am in hopes that m'wife may be home from the city; there may be a glass of wine in our immediate future. I may even feel that I've earned it, and you know how rare an occasion that is.

Quis monitor ipsos monitores?
May. 11th, 2014 07:35 pmUrgh, aargh. I was going to post a little squib about greed, need, desire and colanders* - but when I came to do it, I hit an exaggerated form of a problem that has been increasingly annoying, then plaguing, then really worrying me. Viz and to wit, I come to wake up my computer from its power-saving slumbers - and either the computer itself doesn't wake, or else just the monitor sleeps on. I can't tell which. The monitor just stays blank, with its sleepy onlight flashing to say that it's on but asleep; and I don't know if it's getting signals from the box and sleeping through them, or if it's just not getting anything and so doesn't know it's time to wake up.
When this started, I only had to be patient and everything would wake eventually, after a minute or five minutes or ten. Then it got to the point that it wouldn't wake at all, and I'd have to do a hard reboot to kick everything out of bed. That's been the case increasingly often for the last couple of months, and it isn't fun at all.
Tonight? I came through, and got nuthin', and went eventually for the hard reboot - and still got nuthin', the monitor refusing to believe it was getting any instructions whatever.
Three hard reboots later, we are back at work, but really. This cannot go on. I'll try swapping out the cable first; after that, dunno. Anyone local got a spare monitor I could fritz about with...?
*Now you're all agog, I know.
