Species identification
Dec. 24th, 2007 12:30 pmIt has been suggested more than once, on this forum and elsewhere, that Mac is not, cannot actually be a cat.
Well, folks, you were right. This morning, I have figured him out: he is in fact a fruit bat. Who thinks he's a vulture, which is how the confusion arose.
I was chopping canteloupe melons. Melons. And he was just - well, everywhere. Sitting on the fridge, in order to hang above the chopping like a vulture. On the chopping-board, as soon as my back was turned. Into the discarded seeds. Everywhere.
I did slip him the occasional strip of rind, which he adored; but he kept coming back for more, and apart from mild concerns about his insides, I actually want those rinds. I am experimenting with a pickle.
In other news: it's not often I use the heavy German ten-inch cook's knife, but, well, melons. With thick rinds to be chopped small. It seemed the perfect opportunity. And was. Except.
The knife is an immaculate machine, but it's woken up my slumbrous RSI like billy-oh. I am very ouchie. And now I'm going to go back to fiddly edits, with a whole lot of mousework and repetitive keystrokes. Double-ouchie.
