(seen via [livejournal.com profile] time_freak):

Wasn't there supposed to be some pact, some rainbow promise, that He wasn't going to do this any more...?

(But what I really like is the vision of bishops sitting around nodding judgementally and saying "Yup, that's gays for you," while us gays are sitting around nodding judgementally and saying "Yup, that's God for you..."

[sigh]

I'd just like to remind people that not all Anglicans are homophobic idiots. Not even all CofE bishops, as the Telegraph tries to suggest without ever quite saying so.

[fantasises tattooing the Two Great Commandments in mirror writing upon the foreheads of certain bishops]

Not even all CofE bishops

I hope you'll let an old atheist set the record straight: At the service that followed Chris and Malcolm's civil partnership ceremony, there were three bishops taking part, and at least another two at the wedding breakfast that followed (one was at our table).

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Liberal Anglicanism and some segments of Anglo-Catholicism don't generally have a problem with Teh Ghey. And Desmond Tutu had rather a lot to say on the subject recently, to the horror of the more conservative elements. But of course the Telegraph finds it much more useful to round up a couple of the evangelicals who can be relied on to say things like this, and then slant the article to give the impression this is majority church opinion.

I'll hold the bishops down if you do the tattooing.

I am fed up with idiots who bring my religion into disrepute.

speaking as an American one:

...last time I checked, a Christian's task was supposed to be to roll up his/her sleeves and help the physically and emotionally distressed without judgement of lifestyle or status. *flips through the original documents*

....how the hell do the hierarchies so consistently miss that? All of them. The majority of the rank and file -- normal people -- get it.

Hmmm, one has to look doggedly hard at the trees to miss the forest.

I rather fancy God (whoever he or she or it may be) does not give a fuck about anyone's sexual preferences.

Whats worrying me is that a mainstream newspaper is prepared to publish this without a massive 'this is extremist' disclaimer. One hopes that most people have the sense to ignore this with the contempt it deserves.

You know, if they'd just gone with, "And the floods are from our abandoning our duty to be God's stewards and care for the world, that we allowed global warming, and the hardship of the people is from our abandoning our duty to be God's stewards and care for our neighbors," I could have gotten behind that.

The whole "gay" thing is a bit of a rainbow herring.

Er, does it manage to say that global warming is caused by alternative lifestyles?

I've heard of hot bi-babes but this is ridiculous...

So, if I contact my gay and lesbian friends and persuade them to abstain from sex this week, do you think we can put off the severe weather that's due at the weekend?

I'm sorry, but any religion that disapproves of consensual sex but condones war has something seriously wrong with it.

Damn, we be heap big powerful folks to cause all that ruckus.

Really. If we can do all that just by existing, shouldn't they be nicer to us?

Aww. Why doesn't God get behind my irrational prejudices?

(Like people who wear six-inch heels and totter down the centre of the sidewalk at a mile an hour. Can the flood be because of them?)

In Santa Cruz County, God loves gays so much She wants us all to have enough water for next summer. (Thank you, gay people!)

No water rationing seems a very great benefit for a few hours' power outage (which is, as we all know, just an excuse for romantic candlelight snuggles.)

Sigh. This is why I am no longer an Anglican. I really couldn't deal with being a member of a "lunatic fringe" religion, so I converted to Paganism.

Hopefully my redcurrent jelly makes up (even just a little) for me still being an Anglican...
