Nothing to say: I just wanted you to know that I am posting this from my other office, the Silence Room in the Lit & Phil.

If I remember, I'll sneak the camera in one morning and post pix of my workstation & environment. That'll fix you.

Here to whet your appetite is a snap of Val Macdermid at the launch of her book of short stories, Stranded. If you visit this page you can see some we took earlier. Can you spot [livejournal.com profile] shewhomust as well as [livejournal.com profile] desperance and yours truly?

Hee! Thank you. I recognise Mr Desperance of course, and I think I see yourself, but as I don't know Shewhomust I've no idea if I can spot her or not.

Either way I *still* have a mad desire to live within easy range of the Lit+Phil.

In the photo at the head of this page, the recognisable people are, left-to-right, [livejournal.com profile] durham_rambler, [livejournal.com profile] samarcand, [livejournal.com profile] shewhomust and Sean O'Brien.

And that should have been Val McDermid of course, I don't know where the a crept in from ...

What I love about the Lit & Phil is that, once a book has made it into its permanent collection, they are forbidden under the constitution from ever disposing of it. Which is why they have about 30 star catalogues, including . Catalogue of 20,554 faint stars in the Cape astrographic zone.

...and the original English-Esperanto dictionary, first published in 1907 or thereabouts and never borrowed, never ever borrowed until I took it out myself, almost a hundred years later. But it was still there, waiting for me. That's what I love about the Lit & Phil...

The Wallace Collection in London is forbidden to remove, add or loan anything from its collection - the Lit+Phil sounds much more sensible (well, up to the point where they run out of storage space that is)

Thank you for the photo captioning!
