Edward D Hoch has died

This is sad, in that way that the passing of a great old stager is always sad, albeit inevitable.
As I said in a comment to Yendi, I met him once, and I have friends who knew him well. He was the image of a writer of his generation, or one of the images, at least: quiet and courteous and witty, as charmingly intelligent as his stories, which I'd devoured as a teenager. He did write novels, including SF, but the short story was his true medium and he exulted in it.
