David Gemmell

David Gemmell died today. He'd had a quadruple heart bypass last week; he was back at home and back at work, and died early this morning at the keyboard.

This is not the time and not the forum for an obituary, nor for an analysis of his work and its impact on other writers in particular and the fantasy genre in general, but I did want to register both the shock and the sadness of this sudden loss.

I feel terrible - don't know what to do with myself. He was really kind to me when I was starting out. I didn't know him well but he had always been supportive.

Thanks for this. The bad news is that the other time someone invited me to join a community, the invitation never arrived (twice); dunno what goes wrong, but something clearly does.

I'll drift by the community page, and join from there.

Yeah, just got it from the beeb web site. I heard him talk at a Novacon a few years ago and he was fascinating (if a bit scary). I'd only read one of his books but enjoyed and do intend to read more.
