Brrr!

Mornings have become quite complicated, since the advent of the LHP. Having laptop, am almost obliged to travel. So where I used to be very casual about going to the Lit & Phil, now suddenly I need to be organised. I need to take the laptop - which needs to be charged up - plus whatever else I'm working with, book or document or notes. And if I'm taking that much, then I want to be there long enough to make it worth my while: which makes it sensible to take a flask of coffee, to save myself a couple of quid and guarantee a decent brew. Which means not just making the coffee and remembering to put it in the flask, but also remembering to put the flask in the bag (for yes, I have failed at both of those this week). And then I'm almost out of the door when I remember that whatever-it-is I'm working on, I was working on it on the desktop last night, which means I have to dump that version onto a data-key for transfer to the laptop when I get to the library. And then I have to remember to take the data-key. And...

And this morning I have done all of that, and I am positively poised to go - and it's blizzarding a gale out there, unless it's galing a blizzard. Do not want. It's cold enough in here; it'll be a lot worse out there. And it's a twenty-minute trudge to the library, and, y'know. I just don't want to. But now that I've got myself all organised to go, what am I going to do if I stay? I have firmly allotted today's work to the library. Stay here, and I'll just dither.

*is a wimp*

Denote an infrequently-used part of your home as "the L&P" and work there, using only packed stuff?

Are you out of your mind? Walking twenty minutes in blizzardy stuff? Not when there is hot cocoa and soup in the pantry. How about you march in place for twenty minutes to pretend you walked to the library and then set yourself up at a table and work?

Okay, I do say lots of stupid things, myself. But this is so totally absurd in a tail wagging the dog sort of way that I have to ask: are you saying that, because you have a laptop, you feel guilty about using it at home???

Chaz, get a grip! Things do what you want them to do, not the other way round! Flippin' heck, as my Bristol correspondent used to say.
