...and this soup will pretty much do for anything. Mac included, apparently. I did explain to him early on in the process that he wouldn't be interested, its being largely roasted tomatoes and garlic at that stage; but he was already standing on my feet and scrabbling at the counter-top. Just to defy me, I thought. Then I mixed it with a base of Puy lentils and vegetables left over from the confit last night, and added stock because soup should probably be liquid-ish, and he was still mighty interested. I fought him off as usual while I was eating, and then as usual let him have the bowl. He's practically licked the glaze off. I guess Macs like tomato-and-lentil soup, when they're heavy on the garlic.

Now - because today is all about the food - I am going to prepare things for supper. It always feels a little decadent boiling roots (potatoes, swede and carrot today) and greens (brussels sprouts) specifically for bubble-and-squeak when it's meant to be made out of left-overs. But, y'know, there are cats in the house; I never have any left-overs...

For some reason--being tired, I suppose -- I thought this post was from another friend of mine, [livejournal.com profile] stuology, who has a husband named Mac. So the image I had throughout your post was of a 6' 2" red-headed man standing on her shoes and scrabbling at the countertops. This made me laugh immoderately.

My first cat Caspian was a huge fan of lentils. He used to try and get on my plate on lentil bake days.

Well we ended up roasting a joint of beef to eat it cold. Mind you, this was to do with getting the timing wrong and needing to eat NOW not in two hours time.

As a result, Bob was deeply confused by my roast beef sandwiches at lunch time and yet failed to take advantage of the carving dish being left out afterwards.
