Is not my fault! Nothing in this house is my fault. Sometimes, I blame my publishers; mostly, I blame the cats. In this instance, it's the vets. Or rather, the veterinary nurses.
Baz is a rescue cat; he was brought into the vets in terrible condition, and was in hospital for a month before he was in any way fit to be rehomed (he was terribly scrawny when he came to me, and they told me he'd already doubled his weight from when he was picked up; inside a month, he'd doubled it again. He'd be a fat cat, if I let him). But, thing is, he was picked up on Barry Street. So the nurses called him Barry. And all fell madly in love with him, of course, because he is adorable. And the first thing I said was "He'll need a new name; can't have a cat called Barry!"
Their stony disapproval fell upon me, but I was resistant - until I started calling all my friends, saying "Cat! Black cat! Needs name that isn't Barry!" and they all said "No! Barry! Yay Barry!"
So Barry he is and Barry he remains. Tho' he's mostly Baz in this house. And Mac is Mac because he was named by a little old lady who thought he was nuts. We do not call him Macadamia.
I wondered if it was something like that, and it does make sense. (Not that I can talk, given my cats are Ah Moon -- for the Chinese actress Moon Lee Choi-Fung, Iskander -- from the Persian for Alexander, because he's an asian breed and because he conquers things, and Horus because, well, because... Our local entire tom cat rejoices in the name of Superdog: he was named by a toddler.
