(no subject)
Aug. 4th, 2006 08:05 amI think the elastic has snapped, that's what it is. I am still doing stuff, getting caught up with all those things that were just shoved aside until the book was done - but 'desultory' would be a good word to cover the degree of my engagement with tasks.
Admittedly, one of those tasks is the tax return, to which no one could be eagerly committed - but it really shouldn't take three days. Three days and counting.
I have also been toying with the play, at a couple of pages a day; but I know nothing about writing plays, this is becoming increasingly clear, so it may be the uttermost tosh.
Still, there are brightnesses even through the rain (and oh, it has been rainy). A friend is in town, from Spain; I have known her since her mother came back from summer vacation with a gleam in her eye, a sudden distaste for coffee and a craving for fish-paste sandwiches. Ruth is, lawks, early twenties now, and pure joy. She'll be around most of this month, which is the best timing. If it had been last month I'd have been snarling and telling her to go away. Now I can fall on her neck with shrieks of joy, and run away from here.
'Bye...
