Oof. For a man who didn't do much yesterday, I was notoriously tired: had trouble all evening with the staying-awake, finally fell asleep in the bath, dragged myself to bed and slept till the radio waked me. And then slept again.

And finally rose to the imperative of the young gentlemen's breakfasts, and checked e-mail and drank coffee and so forth, and put myself together for a morning's work at the Lit & Phil. Walked out of the door loaded for bear - and pretty much just turned around and walked straight back in again, because the notion of a twenty-minute walk into town had just defeated me.

And it's now midday, and - well, I'm just sitting here, really. Almost too tired to breathe. Perhaps I'll declare this a reading day, and spend it on the sofa? It's a really bad day for this to happen, as I do did want to get the Alexandria story finished by the weekend, so that I can Begin Vol Two on June 1st (having Begun Vol One on June 1st last year, there would be a pleasing symmetry to it, and I am all about the patterns).

Whatever, though. Is nothing happening here right now. I am dead, apparently, and not of the cute at all.

In my experience, if that's how you feel then it's a waste of energy trying to fight it. Give yourself permission to have a day of indulgence and decadence and you'll feel more energetic tomorrow.

I always feel that decadence should be measured in decades. Alas...

Change of season syndrome (after all, winter has returned to Tyneside). Turn on all the lights, mix yourself something exotic, play with the boys. You'll feel a lot better. Or have forgotten what it was you wanted to forget.

Do you have high humidity up there? It was appalling here and both the marquis and I were flat.

Ordinarily not (it's one of the reasons I love the north-east, after Cornwall - cold but dry. Dry...!); today, though, whoo yeah. Still not raining.

Also, June 1st is your favourite niece's birthday and that would just be a nice way to remember her...

Coo, is it? Damn, I did not know! (This is either (a) because I am a Bad Uncle, with all that that implies; or (b) because I have so many nieces and nephews that nobody could reasonably be expected to remember any of their birthdays, let alone all of them. You choose.)

The start of my book shall be your birthday gift, because of course (c) good or bad, I am a broke uncle and have no money. But imagine a bunch of flowers *this* big... (*holds arms wide, wide apart*)

I think it's possibly (b). Blame my mother. She has so many kids that I don't remember all their birthdays!

Thanks for the flowers. :)
