The conversation with fjm went something like this, after I talked for a while about the kitchen we don't yet have, and how I will cook to get good food but am just as happy to eat out. This is really just the gist of the conversation as it went on longer.
"You should get Chaz Brenchley to invite you over for dinner." "But I hardly know him. I may have met him once at a con or the BSFA." "You don't follow his LJ?" "No, I didn't know he had one. I really don't know him. I know him more from Alice in Sunderland than from actual encounters." "You really don't? His username is desperance." "Oh, that's who that is. I recognize the username, but have never followed it." "You should add him."
Hi! Um, come for dinner... (Tho' you are in London, your profile says, and you're not actually obliged to come all this way just for a meal; but if you're ever in the area, let me know...)
Thank you, though no actual invitation was required! I just thought you might like to know how I ended up here. (I mostly write about eating out. You mostly write about eating in.)
Yes, I am in London. I regularly make it as far as York, but not often further. I'll let you know if I do, though.
Henley is lovely! I've been there for both the River and Rowing Museum (because it's a David Chipperfield building), and for lavish riverside picnicking for the regatta with a bunch of food bloggers.
Yes, I'll be in at Keble in July for a few days with a flock of historians of science (or whatever other units they come in). Henley is an moderately easy daytrip from London, however.
It is, indeed it is. And I shall be at any number of loose ends. We should talk, maybe...?
I don't know what the collective noun for historians of science might be (tho' some of my best friends, etc...). I decided I was outclassed in this when the subject came up in terms of writers, and we batted various ideas about until someone came up with "a block of writers", at which point all the rest of us shut up...
