The letters page of "The [London] Times" is the traditional place to record hearing the first cuckoo of spring; I think LJ is the obvious place to record sighting the first Christmas-branded object.

My local supermarket has Xmas stockings out, in mid-August.

They're for cats.

He's not getting one. However much he yowls and looks cute. Not now, not later. Not in December. Never.

Mine actually share a stocking. It has bells and little bones and mice attached. It comes out during the holidays, and I fill it up on the night of the Eve, and they get to unpack it on Christmas Day. I always hide some sort of stinky treat near the bottom, so they have incentive.

I got it at the grocery store, funnily enough . . .but probably not in August.

Awww. Don't they fight over who gets what? Cats who share nicely is a tricky concept to get my head around... (The girls always ate out of the same bowl, mind you. If I gave them two bowls, they both ate out of one, and then they both turned to the other.)

Each of the cats has very distinctive taste in the type of toy they like, so I mix and match, and there's not much fighting. They push and shove for treats a bit. The only time they fight is when the quiestest one, Violet, gets too much catnip in her and turns into one of those potheads who gets paranoid and munchy after too much weed!
