What colour is every-colour-but-black?

Just a thought, but does anybody know what colour I should set my laser colour printer to print, if I wanted to use equal amounts of all the colour cartridges and none of the black?

(Point being, obviously, that I get through lots of black and practically none of the colour; so I thought for drafts I could just print in whatever-colour-it-would-be that would use up those irritating colour cartridges of which I have a plethora, and so not need to replace the black of which I have a paucity...)

Back when I had a color ink jet (instead of the black laser I have now) I did a lot of printing in green and purple and occasionally even orange. Which was annoying on the eyes, but cheaper than buying new cartridges.

Try brown or olive green.

Can you take out the black cartridge and ask it to print black and see what it tries to do?

If you want to mix the colors all together, you would get brown. (Either red+green+yellow or magenta+cyan+yellow makes brown.) Or you can print orange for some things and green for others. It's possible to just print magenta or just print cyan and have it be legible, but that leaves a lot of leftover yellow.

If you're simply printing out text pages, buy a small cheap mono laser printer instead. They can be had new for under a hundred bucks, less than what you pay for a set of cartridges for the colour laser, and it's a spare in case that stops working for any particular reason.
