Brief observations
Nov. 6th, 2008 10:31 amY'know? Even this little, little typing? Is really ouchie. Expect ongoing postings to be sparse.
Do sidle over to
moshui, though, to pick up his ongoing good news in re DRAGON IN CHAINS etc, which apparently came through while I was sickly.
If my desk were less cluttered, I would be able to shift my mouse to the other side and play left-handed; that would be easier. But, alas...

I have one of their two-handed ergonomic keyboards. It's a good piece of kit, and the Maltron people are really nice and helpful.

Date: 2008-11-06 10:38 am (UTC)Following a bit of digging, I found two pages on their site that indicate (rather obliquely) that their keyboards should work fine with Linux:

and

I'd ring them up and ask them - phone number on this page: http://www.maltron.com/maltron-about.html. As I say, they are nice, friendly, helpful people.

Date: 2008-11-06 10:24 am (UTC)Alas, they're too costly for me. (Oh, and they used to be that awful beige computer-colour; I did actually ask if they could make me one in black, but at the time they didn't think it would be worth their while. Now, of course, all computers are black, yay...!)
I have been thinking about the one-handed models, but only in my blackest moments, when I thought I really might lose use of one. I suspect that by the time I'd learned the layout, my right hand would be back to working order...

Date: 2008-11-06 10:55 am (UTC)It took me about a week to properly get the hang of the two-handed computer, special Maltron layout (which I opted for) and all. Hiring a one-handed one for two or three weeks would at least enable you to type a bit without straining your thumb. And yes, I know even twenty or thirty quid is a sum you'd notice - so would I. You could think of it as saving on the physio you might end up needing to sort that thumb out if you don't let it heal properly.
Maltron keyboards are pricey - though I see that they haven't gone up at all in the ten years since I bought mine (and it is still going strong, though I swap it in and out with my Kinesis, these days).
