Further to my last: I have permission, so this is the letter I had from Harry's great-niece:

*

Hi,
my name is Caroline.  I have been helping my mum trace our family tree.  Yesterday whilst doing some research on the internet, we came across your comments on livejournal about finding a bible in your loft and a letter about Henry Ellis Hoad.  He was my Great Uncle. I never met him because he was killed in the 1st world war.  Harry (as he was known) had a sister called Sylvene, my Grandma.  She had 1 son, my Dad.  Unfortunately she died when my Dad was 18 months old.  Dad is 85 next month, he has many fond memories of when he used to spend the summer holidays at Westgate Road living with his Grandma and Grandpa.  We are very interested in the treasures you discovered in the loft, would you please tell us about them?  If there is anything I can tell you I would be very pleased too.

*

I am just so pleased to be in touch. And will be passing on what few documents I have, as soon as I can organise it.

That is really rather wonderful, that he will be remembered and treasured by this new set of his relatives.

It's good to hear that one of his family has found the posts about him. :-)

The kids for whom he is not the grand-dad are not her cousins. It's really weird to see that in terms of generational vacancy. There's this nice lady who would have had cousins she met at weddings and funerals that didn't happen. It's like the negative of a ghost story.
