Um. Technically, I suppose this is a good thing? At least, I keep telling Dan so.

But.

Those of you who have pre-ordered Daniel Fox's Dragon in Chains from Amazon UK - note, this applies only in the UK - will not be seeing it any time soon. Del Rey is apparently still hoping to sell the book to a UK publisher for an authentic British edition (which is what makes this a good thing, that they think there's still a decent chance of that), and therefore they won't be supplying their own edition to Amazon UK, in order not to queer the pitch for this hypothetical UK publisher.

Whether other UK retailers or indie specialist dealers will be able to get hold of copies, we are not clear. The couple that we've checked so far do not have the book listed.

Um. Don't know what to suggest, really. I may import a boxful myself - but I did that with the Ace books, and I still have large quantities of hardbacks sitting around in the house here. So maybe not.

I may have something more useful to say soonish; just now, I'm still trying to get my head around it. Daniel is just clutching his, and moaning gently.

And no, I'm not going to post a photo of his book, which arrived just moments ahead of this news; that would be mean. I am not mean. No, sir...

Tell people to order it from Amazon.com, or wait for the official UK edition. If there's any chance at all of a UK deal, you'd be shooting yourself, um, that is your friend Daniel Fox, in the foot to do anything else.

Well, a UK sale would be an excellent thing, naturally. But all the same, very frustrating for Daniel and for all of us waiting for our shiny new copies.

Oh, bother. And other words...

Should I link to this, given that a couple of people appear to have ordered it via the Amazon UK link I gave in my review?

If you wouldn't mind, please, yes. Best to spread the one word, to contradict the other...

We can of course order it from amazon.com, but there's a price penalty inevitably, and a time penalty too...

A thought occurs -- link to this, or does [livejournal.com profile] moshui want to put up a wail I can link to?

What [livejournal.com profile] papersky said. A UK edition would be a Good Thing. (Of course, I too can be philosophical since I have an ARC...)

Fingers crossed that UK publishers will see sense.

And much as I will love to read this, I am Not Buying hardbacks. Can't afford them, don''t have the shelfspace, dislike reading them.

Ooh, an ebook. That might stave off cravings until they come up with a UK edition...

I shall possess my soul in patience until the UK edition comes out; but it will not be easy!
