I had meant to go into town this morning. Take the laptop, maybe spend the day. It is irrefutable that if I put myself somewhere - on a train, or in a strange town - where I am isolated from distractions, I do a lot more work; to a lesser extent, I can achieve the same at the Lit & Phil. I am not good at staying there for the four- or five-hour stretches that yield real productivity, but I do keep trying. (Went in for the afternoon t'other day, with a flaskful of something that was not coffee. Came home with ten pages. Which is not phenomenal, but twice a day's work if I only stay at home.)

However. It's snowing. It's been snowing all morning, and I seem to be turning wimp. Once I get there, the Lit & Phil is actually a lot warmer than this house; but, twenty minutes of brrr! lie between there and here. And there will also be the need to come home, soon or late. Possibly in the teeth of a blizzard.

Maybe I'll stay home for lunch, and look out of the window later...

Snow is fictional, you know.

Maybeso, but that stuff out there? It has good storytelling values: credibility, conviction, integrity. Lingeringness. My house is all swallowed up by story; I'm staying in.

I'm yearning for that sort of story to bury my place. Soft fairytales. Gentle cold.

You have snow. We have rain and high winds. The world is askew....

(but I have a massage scheduled for this morning so I shall venture out willingly)

Mmm, massage... (I was just lying in bed this morning, feeling my stiff sore shoulder and thinking how good a massage would be. But no, Chaz shall have snow. Maybe it's a hint, I should pack the shoulder in ice? Or just go and stand in the back yard for twenty minutes, that would do it...)

if you have a patch of clean, fresh-fallen snow, I highly recommend snow-candy. Makes even sore shoulders feel better.

All of our snow is melting - maybe you could send some of yours down to Derbyshire?

Merry

I completely understand. I do a lot more when I'm not in the house, even though I have an office. It's better now with the meds, but there are still too many distractions here.

Yup. Some are furry, some are virtual, some are edible. None seems that indomitable, but they mount up.

Sometimes I think I should just buy myself a train ticket somewhere slow and cheap, for the sake of a good day's writing en route. Or go the whole hog, the Lawrence Block method, go off to a hotel for a month to write a book...

LOL I occasionally think about a cabin in the woods, far from civilization. But my husband would want to come along, and then he'd want me to converse, hike, hunt, play games... *sigh* Families.

I too am dithering, at which I am expert. Indeed, I have successfully dithered since Monday, with a net amount of ) words written. This isn't extraordinary for me: I have no discipline whatsoever. Sigh.

Looking out of the window for you. Still snowing down here. Thinking of going home early, when I have finished my corned beef (I know, I'm a savage) with curried fruit chutney on seeded brown. I certainly not getting and real work done here at work.

Welcome to Scotland - which is where the forecast promised snow. We were to have warmer weather, with maybe showers later, and I was going down the hill to do some errands, as soon as I'd done one quick update. And behold, we too have white fluffy stuff falling from the sky for hours on end, and I am not venturing out on that hill (though I may have to go as far as the compost bin).
