It is of course in the nature of things, indeed it is a law of nature - damn Nature and all her laws, damn them, I say! - that no sooner do I get on a charge with one of these unfinished things, no sooner do I start counting the days until I finish it, than something else comes along to postpone that happy event.

Both my agents have now reported on the new book, and I must rework it and deliver by the end of the month. So I have printed it all out, for yea, I am a creature of ancient habit; and today and tomorrow and likely the rest of this week I will be reading. It is a reading week. Then next week I have to cut stuff and write new scenes. They want things explained, rot 'em; they actually want to see the stuff that I had so artfully left out. Sigh...

In other news, I have bought some tangerines that appear to be clad in Morocco-leather. (Hee. Do you see what I did there? Tangerines... Morocco... *chortles*) [They're officially clementines, but hey: why let the world interfere with a good joke?] Seriously, I cannot tear my way into them with my thumbnails, I have to breach their integument with a knife; and then the peeling is a grim business. Gah. Let me have about me oranges that slither willing out of their skins, say I...

You've filled my head with richly-appointed tents, spicy perfumes and oranges dancing a seductive striptease. Thanks for that.

Aww. (Speak it softly - you never know who might be listening - but I've never had a cat make it to advanced age. Eleven or twelve has been their limit, thus far. Delicate girls. I'm kind of hoping that Robust Boys will still be running me ragged well into my own receding years...)

Oh, I'm glad that wasn't just me.

Like Chambers dictionary...? I don't think we use Webster's.

Have you seen what [personal profile] truepenny has said about your friend [profile] moshui's new book?

I believe the phrase "jaw-breakingly beautiful" was aptly used.

What? No...! - Oh. Jaw-breakingly beautiful, but she can't finish it 'cos she hates a character and wants him to die and is afraid that he won't.

Um. I wonder which character? And where she is in the story...?

Other people. Aren't they interesting?

I can guess which character and I'm afraid the phrase "grow up!" springs to mind.

I seem to have extremes. Early deaths due to catastrophe, or very long-lived moggies. Mabel went to 21. Her brother was killed by a car at 3. I've never had any kind of purebred, though. Vigorous hybrids all the way. *g*
