Futility 101
Dec. 3rd, 2009 07:16 pmMac, setting up his favourite ambush: crouching behind the floor-length curtain just by the living-room door, leaving only the tip of his twitchy tail poking out as a bait like an angler-fish dangling its lamp, waiting for Barry to come innocently through the door to be pounced upon and mortally assaulted.
What Mac has somehow not noticed is that Barry is actually already here sitting on my knee through all of this, watching as he lays his trap, and decidedly not falling for anything.
In other news: this is a little weird and a little worrying. Barry used to be the speedy eater, gulping down his dinner and then going to steal the last of Mac's. These days, it's very suddenly the other way around: Barry eats really slowly, and I have to shut Mac out of the kitchen to let him finish. (Except I confess I usually let Mac back just before he's done, just because I love to hear Barry growl...) When I think about this, I worry. The word "teeth" occurs to me. The girls had dreadful teeth when they came to me, and through the years their dentistry cost far more than mine ever did or ever could. The boys came with pearly-white strong lovely gnashers, so I've been kind of heedless. And right now, I don't even want to look...
