Liveblogging the pies
Jan. 13th, 2010 01:13 pmOkay. Pies are resting in the fridge, before baking. Small cat was last glimpsed licking raw pastry off the empty wine bottle I used as a rolling-pin, while he recovered from being yelled at and thwapped on the head more often than either he or I was quite comfortable with. (How does one stop a cat being quite so stubbornly infuriating? [And yes, I am aware that my use of the word "how" does rather beg the question; and yes, I anticipate that the only true answer is "one doesn't".])
That's the first time I've ever raised a hot-water pastry by hand. Theymay not be are not the most beautiful pies in the world. but still, they do definitely look pie-ish. If you saw them, your mind would say "that's a pie". We'll see how they behave in the oven, but so far I am satisfied.
And now I have half an hour while they rest and then another half an hour while they cook. I have coffee, I have plums-in-chocolate. Onward!
