This from my friend Mark, which I reproduce entirely, and without superfluous comment:

Chaz,

I put the German review of Shelter through the Babelfish translator and
this is what it produced...

If someone of the childhood wants to tell to its life and if it does not
begin with a Knaller, after kind of crime film, then can only, as here,
with poetry to succeed. The I storyteller Rowan wants to tell not
ambiguously like its nut/mother, but clearly. I supply solid
wet-with-rain grey to you with instead of rampantly growing Gruens,
concrete instead of their groped a climbing. And first it wants to
supply the reason, why it drinks. But lasts according to kind of crime
film, because it interferes in the second chapter the death of his best
friend and university colleague. With a measurer. And into the river
thrown, afterwards, but he was already dead there. Rowan can at all only
listen, after he threw a handful in of Paracetamol, this standard
medicine (nearly) of all crime film authors. Rowan flees from Cambridge
into its village back, somewhere in North England, after the suspicion
on him is fallen. But like so often, is with his nut/mother and his old
friends also nothing more like that, as it expected it. Sometimes too
schwafelig, but by the many idioms a crime film of the subtler kind
tells.

Crikey!

There, now. That'll make you go and pre-order it - here - if anything will.

We loves Babelfish, yes we does. It makes us feel needed.

(Schwafeln, according to my Langenscheidt, means "twaddle, babble, drivel". So I'd be inclined to translate "sometimes too
schwafelig" as "it goes on a bit" - except that it doesn't.)

Now I didn't pick any of that up from the reading of the book... no I most certainly did not.

I particularly liked "after the suspicion on him is fallen"...

Must go... Sunday... time to telephone my nut/mother...

Rofl... Those rampantly growing Gruens sound painful, I'd get those seen to if I were you!
