It's kind of like having credit of the old-fashioned kind: the store keeps hold of my credit card for me, so I don't have to worry about paying for stuff and they know I'm not spending anywhere else, and...

Ahem.

Actually what happened, I got to that point in the transaction where you flick open your purse and take out the card? And discovered that it wasn't there. And probably went a little pale, as I poked around the other pockets in the certain knowledge that I wasn't going to find it hiding there; and then paid with another card, and packed up my bag and walked out almost like a human being, thinking about how I'd need to contact the bank when I got home, and wondering how the hell I could've lost it, where the hell I could've left it, and...

And after a couple of hundred metres, there was no doubt in my head that the last time I'd used it was in that self-same store the previous day, when I'd been buying Wolf Blass and gin; and it did make a fair kind of sense to turn around and go back and just ask, y'know? Just in case?

So I made like a human being all over again, and asked the nice lady, and lo: drawer was searched, and card was found. And I wouldn't worry unduly if it weren't the second time in a week that I'd left it in that same store, only the first time a nice man bellowed after me; and I never do this sort of thing, I'm neurotically careful about money and purses and cards and such. Except I seem to have a hole in my head, suddenly.

In utterly unrelated news, I was just in the very moment of explaining to Mac that I was interrupting our happy cuddle session to take a couple of pills and he was please not to regard this as an opportunity to be a bloody nuisance, when he reached out a paw and flipped the top of the water-bottle down into the shadows beneath the desk. Aurgh! Retrieving it involved a lot of bending over and fumbling about, which bloody hurts, which is the reason why I take the bloody pills, and...

Cats. They're lucky they're cute. Presumably evolution had a hand in that? *imagines a whole parade of feline-equivalent species of spectacular ugliness, wiped out by furious early humans*
