desperanceMy best brother-in-law has died. Massive heart attack, utterly unexpected. [And it happened at the slaughterhouse, which is, y'know. Kinda grimly ironic.]
They'd been together thirty years, and I have been heard to describe it as the happiest marriage I knew. Three grown kids, and a sort of smallholder lifestyle they loved; and my 90-year-old mother, living on the same property under their watchful eyes. Everything will have to change now. (And at the moment, I can't even get there; trains are in chaos at both ends, and the roads are worse. And none of us drives.)
