It's not exactly a treadmill, and there can be long periods of treading water: but the book business has a chain effect, even for those of us rattling around at one loose end of it.

As witness: I have one book - Hidden Cities - just out last week, bringing an end to one series and one publishing relationship. I have a book just finished, currently called House of Doors, which links up with a novelette (The Keys to D'Espérance) that I wrote ten or a dozen years ago, and which launches a new series with a new publisher. And I have a book - Desdaemona - coming out from another publisher yet, which I hope will form the start of yet another series.

If you have any interest at all in urban fantasy, if you think maybe you might like to read this book at some point, it would help beyond measure if you were to pre-order it. Like, right now, while the publisher is still pondering whether or not to go for more. Individual sales really can make a difference. I'm just sayin'.
