On the other hand...
Apr. 28th, 2011 06:04 pmI may find small entertainment in the royal wedding, but I am loving the clumsy politics that surround it. Withdrawing the invitation to the Syrian ambassador, but not that of the Bahraini (thus confirming that it's fine to shoot your own people, so long as you're a friend of ours) - and also not that of the Libyan, thus presumably confirming that it's fine to shoot your own people so long as we can join in?
And inviting all the living former Tory prime ministers, but none of the Labour ones? They can assert all they like that the relevant criterion was the wearing of the garter, but that's not the distinguishing factor that people actually observe. Never mind the protocologorical correctness, there really is no better way to confirm that the palace is not politically neutral. Did they really think that no one would notice? Or that no one would care?
*pours glass of wine, enjoys the fall-out*
