I suppose, if a copy-editor spots what they think is a mistake, it is in fact technically impossible for them then to imagine that you might have done it deliberately. But oy, I am getting so bored of typing stet for a bloody comma, and confirming that a repetition was indeed meant. So bored. There are, I don't know, four or five alterations on every bloody page? And half of those need to be overridden (it is a feature of copy-editors - it cannot, surely, be a bug? - that they have tin ears and no sense of rhythm), and almost none of them are actually useful.
