The way I read the article, it was a piss take. Mind you, it was written by an American for a right wing American audience, so I may be wrong.

Its a bit of a scarey proposition, but the old Greek saw about those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad seems to apply more and more to certain sections of the American populace.
