Distractions
Feb. 8th, 2012 10:04 amYup, my nice Irish doctor says it's tinnitus. Go to see the ENT specialist, he says, if we can get you an appointment in time - but mostly there's not much we can do. Low-level distraction, he says: play a radio at night. I do that anyway, I said, and we both silently wondered if maybe I've been unconsciously self-treating this for years.
Anyway. There's that. Today is all about professionals: doctor and then vet and then dentist, at brisk intervals. And packing. I am trying not to write today, in order to get more packing done. Not doing terribly well at that (half a page written, half a box packed) but we do keep trying.
Mac has just helpfully packed himself in the other half of the box. If he would pack himself into his carrier, that would help more.
Distractions! I am only at the computer now because I found a couple of books and looked at them and thought, "Oh. They look like first editions. I wonder...?"
And yup, I think they are. One is C S Lewis' Prince Caspian - no dust wrapper, alas, but a tolerably clean edition. It probably has a value. T'other is Steinbeck's The Short Reign of Pippin IV, a UK first edition, which does have a dustwrapper but is alas a library edition, which always drags the value down. Besides which, the internet says "this satirical fabrication is very probably the least accomplished of all of Steinbeck's novels" - but hey. It's Steinbeck, and I'm moving to California.

He had to fiddle around a bit until he found the frequency that canceled his. It's so fascinating (in a macabre way) that everyone who has tinnitus has their own special tone.
