Remember how excited I got, when I finally made my wireless USB adapter work in Linux? Just that brief flare, before I discovered that there was a password-glitch and I couldn't actually log in to K's network?

Well, it all happened again ten minutes ago, because there I was messing about in Linux and suddenly there it was: network connected, five bars on the icon, tra la.

So I seized my moment, and went for a full install. Only to be told ten seconds later that I had no internet connection.

Five bars still there on the icon. I heaved a terrible sigh, ran Firefox, and yup - absolutely nothing, no connection. Five lying bars, was all, and a deluded computer.

Snarl. So here I am back in Windows, wondering what to try next.

In other better news: the first of my English friends arrive tonight! So does our wedding-ring designer and our officiant. They're all going to want all our time and attention, but hey. We can multi-task.

I am making my first American pot roast. Which I took a picture of, because I thought it was pretty as the lid went on:

Pot roast

And now it's bubbling away with a dollar's worth of Two-Buck Chuck in it, and - on the principle that you should never cook with anything you're not prepared to drink - I am going to drink the other dollar's worth, just to save my friends from having to do it. Quick, before they come! And while I slurrup, I shall potter about the house doing cleaning and tidying and so forth. This week will be an awfully big adventure, and it starts pretty much here and now. ([livejournal.com profile] shewhomust and [livejournal.com profile] durham_rambler should have been decanted by Amtrak into San Francisco by now! I am hopeful that they may be able to locate [livejournal.com profile] klwilliams as she leaves work and so travel up to Sunnyvale with her...)

Mmmmm pot roast.

It's not you, it's Windows. We had friends stay with us for six weeks (with Windows machines) and they could not get their laptops to communicate with our WiFi network.
