Holy See, Batman...!
Jan. 22nd, 2007 12:09 pmGotta love stories like this (via

Actually - and seriously - I want to write a book about the Vatican. Straight non-fiction, just a history, and it shall be called "State of Grace". One of those small hardbacks that were so trendy a few years ago. And it shall be riotously, inexplicably successful, and I shall write a sequel which shall be about the Jesuits, and it shall be called "SJ", because it can be.
I'll never do it, but that doesn't invalidate the wanting.

Date: 2007-01-22 02:09 pm (UTC)'Society of Jesus' is the formal name for the Jesuits, and the abbreviation becomes part of their title; they are Father Eustace Cobble, SJ, just as I could be Chaz Brenchley, M Theol, if I'd ever finished my degree...

Date: 2007-01-22 02:05 pm (UTC)'Society of Jesus' - it's the formal name for the Jesuits, and they wear it like a qualification: 'Father Murdo Braslewsky, SJ'.
There's a subtitle too, perhaps: 'SJ - God's SAS'.
And hush: you're absolutely right about the third, but if we tell the world then everybody will be expecting it, which would be so very wrong...
