Does that mean pandas are saved?

I mean if there were only a thousand in the world, then an increase of 16 is notable, and an expected increase of another 38 soon even more so.

Next time I write some SF, I'm going to have about as many people as have brand-name dogs now having a pet panda.

According to a 2004 survey, there are about 1600 in the wild - so yup, 1% is certainly significant. Also I guess it means they've cracked the problems of captive breeding, so in that sense, I guess the breed is safe.

As pets? Hmm. You'd need a lot of bamboo (a highly inefficient foodstuff, I understand). Also, I am myself happily unacquainted with panda-poo, but...

Yay to baby pandas! To see more than 2 together just does not compute. My brain keeps turning them back into footballs - especially in the "team" shot.
