On the other hand, we have been trying for some time to set up a power of attorney so that a friend back in the UK can transact some business for me. The lawyer over there can't move without certified documentation of my ID, pursuant to new money-laundering regulations, which the certifying person over here has to sign up to; the lawyer over here spoke to her bar association who said "WTF! No, we are not bound by their money-laundering regulations! Sign nothing!"
So we thought we'd try the British Embassy. To get an appointment, you have to create an account. We created an account. They sent a confirming e-mail. We tried to log in to our account. They said "No such account exists."
