Tuesday, Jeannie and I located wallpaper (oddly hard, in these lamentable days) and went back to Kit's, where we primed and painted and made good (my favourite phrase, in any DIY context: I love making good) before lunch, and after lunch I papered. It was prepasted, so I sloshed it about in the bathtub, counting mississippis the while; and then slapped it on the wall with the usual cursing, grunting and trying again. Straighter walls, people: they would make the life of the paper-hanger so much easier.

I made one egregious error with the most difficult piece, trying to fit it around a corner and a light-fitting and a cabinet all at once; and I made one gigglingly idiotic error that somebody eventually will notice but I had to point it out to Jeannie, so hey. And I haven't seen it dry, so I don't actually know that all the edges aren't peeling and the middles blistering in a most repulsive manner; but we did at least leave a fully papered bathroom behind us. And when I tell you that the paper we stripped off was silvered with vast pink flowers on it, I am in hopes that the modest stripe we left behind will count as an improvement.

Yesterday was dentist, where I shall be crowned again; Karen wants to know how many crowns make an emperor. And then everyone came to dinner, as they do on Wednesdays. I made chicken biryani and an egg-and-potato curry and a coconutty dal and raita; and I have leftovers for today's lunch and possibly tomorrow's too, and the kitchen this morning looked like this:

(remembering that kitchens are 360-degree affairs, and there is just as much mess behind the camera as in front)

On the matter of lunch, I may have suggested to Karen that as she has access to a microwave at work, some mornings I could pack her off with some soup and a bun for lunch. As it happens, she's working in the same team as Dave, who's one of our regular Wednesday guests: so that'll be lunch for two, then. As and when.
