Oh, look, I am going to stop this, honest; it's just getting silly. But...
Mac doesn't understand the Evil Red Dot, aka the laser pointer; he just doesn't get it. But he is fascinated by Barry's chasing of the ERD; so he gets in the way, and then there's a stand-off, with bottle-brush tails and all sorts. This last time, I left them to it and ducked out into the kitchen to stir my kohlrabi (Chaz'z dinner tonight: kohlrabi gratin, with roasted veg. And perhaps some pancetta stirred in, just so it's not entirely veggie) and there was a squawk, which is the first time either of 'em has raised a protest from the other. So I went back to see, and they were opposite sides of the dining-room, lashing their tails; and then Barry lay down, and then Mac lay down, and they did Sphinxish things at each other. And I bethought me of Kipling, and the Laws of the Jungle, which state - if I remember -
When Pack meets with Pack in the jungle, and neither will go from the trail,
Lie down till the leaders have spoken; it may be fair words will prevail.
I know that book altogether too well...

Funny how a law for wolves fits cats so well.

Date: 2007-04-20 09:03 pm (UTC)Please don't stop this... I'm finding it strangely compelling.
We have two boy-cats, as I've mentioned before, and they just don't get on. They have a relationship tenuously built on mutual mistrust and semi-tolerance. Sue and I both bear the scars of having to physically tear them apart, although this is mercifully rare... usually they just give each other a wide berth.

Thank you for taking him and I hope it all works out if not it has been a great adventure for them both.
