A thunderstorm and a power outage do not really constitute the ideal moment to discover that the autosave feature Does. Not. Work.

It probably is a traditional moment to discover such a thing, but not ideal. No.

Happily (O, happy me!) I only lost a page of work, and I have more or less recreated it, but even so. If there's one thing I depend upon, one comfort in my sorry life, it is autosave. Every two minutes, thank you. But apparently not, in this iteration. 'Scuse me, while I send an e-mail...

It's a horrid, horrid thing to happen.

After a frightening PC death experience I have copies on laptop, on PC and on a data stick.

It must be worse for you to lose stuff, people actually read what you do.

I've just got a new computer with a new edition of Word with Autosave set for 5 minutes and I religiously copy to an external hard drive and a floppy at the end of every session - when you've lost as much as I have through stupidity, a little paranoia is understandable.

Still, I know it will let me down because that's what machines do and my name is not John Connor.
