On the geeky front, various details about Cardinal Richelieu.
On the profound but obscure front, I learned that a relationship in my life can handle something with nary a quiver that would have made me a sniffly mess some years ago.
Is true. One time I did a bad thing to my hand, and had to live with it overnight before I could get to doctors and drugs and X-rays and such; so I spoke to a GP friend, and he recommended co-codamol and whisky. Which has been my analgesic of choice ever since.
My CC has "DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL OR YOU WILL DIE" on it and being a cautious soul I've never chanced it (they're not the over the counter ones). Funnily enough it's my hands too. Arthritic. Severely limits typing.
Details about the recolonization by life of volcano-blasted territories, and stuff I'm not 100% sure about on medusa spiders. Also that you can depend on a cat for behaving in a perfectly brain-dead fashion. I'm not very happy about that last one.
Yes, but I keep thinking a modicum of common sense will intervene at one point, so it's a process where new layers of truth reveal themselves all the time.
The sensation of extreme itchiness will fade by the time I have a chance to get it checked out. Also, I have no desire to daytrip to Tulsa, and will take the excuse of extreme itchiness to get out of it.
I learned that Marks and Spencer will not exchange credit notes for gift vouchers. They've obviously had the money, so what difference does it make? Luckily - or not - I was too tired and emotional to rant.
I learned that when I go to my manager and say I have too much to do, he keeps me talking about it for an hour and then gives me the additional task of training people to be able to accept my delegating things to them. And then he mentions that he's out tomorrow so I'll need to do his work too.
I learned that applying for work still terrifies me into immobility. This morning I phoned one of my sweeties, and told him about having the resume, and having the job listing for the job I wanted, and being afraid to do anything at all about it. He said kind and gentle things about it being better to send them something that wasn't perfect than to send nothing. Then he offered to walk me through it. "Ok, just call up your resume and the job listing now, and I can help you if you get stuck."
"They're on my computer. It's scary enough that I called you about it from 3 blocks away."
