Knew I shouldn't have said anything: because now, of course, I feel crap again; and yup, my chest really, really hurts. So much for the efficacy of wine (tho' I might just drink the rest of the bottle anyway. Hell, I'm away tomorrow, it'll only go off in my absence).

And yes, okay, I'll make an appointment with the doc before I leave. Promise.

Transcontinental sympathies. I don't have asthma as an ongoing problem (although I did have two or three post-illness episodes about 7 or 8 years ago, very frightening), but I've had pneumonia at least once and bronchitis several times as an adult. In the last 10 years or so, whenever I get a cold, it "goes to my chest" and stays there. And I cough. And cough. For months. I start to feel better, back to overwork or travel across time zones, and relapse again. Finally, reality penetrated. I have to take this seriously and I have to give my body what it needs to recover.

Bed rest is top of the list. I hate it. Why can't I sit up and write or knit and watch old Babylon 5 episodes? It's not fair, but it's the way it is. Lying down seems to be necessary. Once down, however, I can tackle my TBR piles. It's getting me to slow down enough in the first place that's the challenge. If I'm willing to do it, 2 or 3 days does the trick, plus regular naps for the next couple of weeks.

Steaming my head. As in hanging over a pot of simmering water, preferably with a towel over my head, as in plugging the vaporizer in the bedroom. No long showers -- we're in Stage I drought. What a boring chore! What marvelous results.

St Paul wrote to Timothy: 'Take a little wine for thy stomach's sake.' Me, I say, 'Take a lot of wine for thy chest's sake.'

I hope the doc you see will be simpatico/simpatica. Be well, Chaz! *hugs*

Get that chest checked out. I did suffer from severe chest pains which I feared were heart attacks - except I knew they weren't as I lived through them. I get checked by a cardiology consultant who told me the problem was an inflamed tendon, probably caused by injury during an asthma attack. Haven't had any since then.
