Oh, they're around. Mac has had his daily mushroom, Barry his daily sit on my lap - he is just so much more affectionate, since the weather turned chilly. Also, he gets displaced: Mac makes a habit of sitting in Barry's places.
Also, the perfectly adequate laundry basket I bought not so long ago is now entirely unfit for purpose. Barry used to chew it in a desultory manner; Mac has chewed off both its handles and the top hem that stopped its wicker fraying. Today I carried it down and upstairs in my arms like a baby, and it shed wicker all the way. Meh.
I exaggerate. But any time there are mushrooms in the house, Mac gets one. I spend so much of my time saying no to him - "No, you can't have the nice bread! No, the meat is mine! No, no, no...!" - it's actually comforting to be able to say yes for once, to toss a mushroom to the floor and watch him massacre it. Nom-nom-nom. He does like him his mushrooms.
I didn't think you were that much of a fan of Neil Gaiman's. I mean, I think it's great news but then, I like Neverwhere and all those little floppy magazine things he did a few years back before he got too grown up to write about Men with their Underwear On The Outside.
I liked American Gods very much, and I liked the man when I met him; but mostly, I am as ever a service to my friends. I know there are those of you out there who will squee at such a news.
