So this morning I stood up and reached across my desk, to lift down a heavy document-box from the shelves that are stupidly positioned at an awkward stretch behind the desk.

A little while later I noticed my back was aching, in a way that it hasn't for a long time.

When I stood up to go downstairs for lunch, my left hip was suddenly sharply hurty. That would be the hip that had all the sciatica, when I prolapsed my disk before.

Oh, bugger.

Maybe it's just a flare-up, maybe it'll just get better as quickly as it got bad...?

Maybe.

I really must rearrange all the furniture in this office. Throw that out, probably, put the desk there...

Trouble is, bad back. No hauling furniture with bad back.

*swallows NSAIDs*

Pray for us now, and at the hour of our ouchie. Which would be now, actually...

My friend Devon Ellington is publishing her novella Hex Breaker today: get it as a download, get it as a CD. Either way. And read an interview with her here, in which she cites me as, um, an influence. And so forth. Ahem.

And! I was going to make a post about why it is not wrong for writers to expand their series into short stories and novellae as well as books (having only just discovered that apparently some readers think it is wrong, and grow quite irate on the issue), but I find that my good friend [livejournal.com profile] moshui has done it already. Go you, and read him; he says everything that I wanted to, and more. And friend him while you're there, why don't you? He could use the support, and he's a lot more interesting than I am.

Oh, and while we're on the subject, if anyone out there enjoyed Bridge of Dreams and River of the World, be aware that there is more story from that story in a short story, "In the Night Street Baths", published in Lace and Blade. To the high regard of Tanith Lee. As mentioned heretofore. (Sorry, but that keeps repeating on me...)
