So this morning I stood up and reached across my desk, to lift down a heavy document-box from the shelves that are stupidly positioned at an awkward stretch behind the desk.

A little while later I noticed my back was aching, in a way that it hasn't for a long time.

When I stood up to go downstairs for lunch, my left hip was suddenly sharply hurty. That would be the hip that had all the sciatica, when I prolapsed my disk before.

Oh, bugger.

Maybe it's just a flare-up, maybe it'll just get better as quickly as it got bad...?

Maybe.

I really must rearrange all the furniture in this office. Throw that out, probably, put the desk there...

Trouble is, bad back. No hauling furniture with bad back.

*swallows NSAIDs*

Pray for us now, and at the hour of our ouchie. Which would be now, actually...

HEX BREAKER released today. Michelle Miles interviewed me about the release, and I mention you as one of my "influences" -- I hope you don't mind:

Mind? Mind? Honey, what can I say? (Except, obviously, I don't mind.)

Happy launch day!

Ooh, so do I. I just don't expect it. I'm slipping into Eeyore mode here; I expect it'll last years, like the first time. Gloom, gloom, ouchie...

I prolapsed a disc a few weeks ago. After accidentally doing a self-chiropractic number, which amazingly helped, I've found that working with my laptop on the bed (many pillows behind me) with legs stretched straight out, using a laptop desk, has 100% fixed the problem.

So if you're trying to work at all, and find the chair hard to cope with, I can recommend this.

And also, ouch! Poor you!

Hee. I love the notion of accidental self-chiropracty.

And thank you for the recommendation. I am collecting pillows (uh, mentally) as I type.

Also, I have just had a hot bath and rubbed some Japanese preparation into my back. Which is, uh, making me sneeze. A lot. This is, uh, counterproductive. Hence all the grunting. Sigh...

You're very welcome. Backs are a bugger, and a real writer's occupational hazard!

My lower back and sciatica flare-ups respond well to: 1) ice packs wrapped in a thin towel -- 20-30 minutes on, 20 minutes off, repeat continuously until the pain fades; and 2) ibuprofin or other pain-reliever that takes down swelling. It's the inflamation from swelling that causes most of the pain. The combination of both ice and anti-inflammatory meds always works better for me than meds alone. Good luck. :)
