I see my role as mostly educational

Yesterday was brought to you courtesy of the adverb "utmostly".

Today comes hand in hand with the noun "leucippotomy".

Nobody embarking on this book would expect to stumble over leucippotomy before the two-thirds point, but that's only because nobody pays attention. The clue's right there on the cover. [At this point I should probably post a picture of the cover, but I'm not sure I have consent, so I shan't do that. You'll just have to take my word for it. Leucippotomy. Oh, yes.]

Locus Recommended Reading list

As noted elsewhere, the Locus Recommended Reading list is out. Rather oddly, nobody else has noted that it features Hidden Cities by that Daniel Fox fellow. I say oddly, because, y'know. It really is all about Daniel.

(My own favourite, of those I've read so far? That would be Genevieve Valentine's Mechanique, which is astonishing and delightful.)

I don't care about expensive things

Ah, Chicago. I have to spend the night in Chicago, on my way to California next month. I'm not looking forward to that bit, not at all - but as I said to K, a man's journey into exile should be a little difficult, a little lonely, a little frightening. You're not doing it rightly, else. So.

After that, of course, everything gets better.

In April, we get married. We've got a wedding-present list and everything. I found that weirdly hard, for someone who likes shopping as much as I do - choosing what other people should buy for us is apparently against my nature; that's almost reassuring, in a way - but we struggled through, and the list exists at Bed, Bath and Beyond, for those of you who have in fact been asking. (If you lose that link and have to find the list from their home page, it's easier to search for my name than for Karen's. For probably obvious reasons.)

In other news, I dreamed that I introduced Karen to the Queen. And then spoke to Her Majesty about the fact that my mum's older than she is. Given that I did in fact introduce K to my mum a few weeks back, this probably says something significant about intrafamilial relationships.
