OMG is it cold out there, it is. (Actually it's quite cold in here too; weather like this, my poor boiler flames and grunts and struggles to make the kind of difference the cats ideally would look for. I have a long thin house that faces north, and a forty-year-old heating system.)

I walked into town through a chill still morning, and then home at lunchtime through slippy-wet streets and air that was greasy with a kind of frozen rain that wasn't quite snow yet. I don't suppose they have that in California.

It's proper snow now, and they forecast inches of it. Inches. It's the kind of weather out in which one should not go, but I have to get down to the far south today - or Durham, at any rate. That's about twelve minutes on the train, if I can get there, if the trains are running. Oy.

In other news, the boys had post this morning. Their passports are here, all stamped and up to date and everything. I feel a mad temptation to get physical photos, proper head-and-shoulder shots, and gum them in in the places provided.
