This book I am reading, allegedly called The Truelove, by Patrick O'Brian?

It isn't The Truelove at all, not back where I come from; there ain't no such novel. It is of course Clarissa Oakes.

Anybody know why the title was changed for the US? And whether it was ab initio, or happened later?
