Some period of time ago that must certainly be more than twenty years, although it is not thirty (I do have the haziest notions of time past; it is a difficulty), I was hanging out with Geoff Ryman in London and he introduced me to several of his friends, including [livejournal.com profile] rozk. Roz is awesome in many ways and the best kind of company, one of those people who can be stimulating and challenging and entertaining all at once. It's been a constant pleasure (I was going to say "an uncomplicated pleasure", but nothing about Roz is uncomplicated) to sustain our friendship through cons and fandoms, random encounters and mutual friends, from then till this.

One of m'wife's friends, the writer Deborah Grabien, is the powerhouse behind small publisher Plus One Press. It may be no coincidence that having published a story of Karen's in the music anthology Tales from the House Band, Deb is publishing stories by both Karen and me in the sequel, Tales from the House Band 2.

It is, however, nothing but a delightful coincidence that just as I become a Plus One author, so does Roz. Finally, her novel Rituals is seeing the light of day, and we are stablemates.

We're going to be celebrating all weekend; Roz is reading at SF in SF tonight, and there's a party in her honour tomorrow. And I haven't seen her since Karen was last in England, which I guess must've been New Year. Which is altogether too long, but she's here in California and I'll see her in an hour or so. *bounces*
